The DigiChina Project is a collaborative effort to analyze and understand Chinese technology policy developments through direct engagement with primary sources, providing analysis, context, translation, and expert opinion.

It is based at Stanford University, housed within the Program on Geopolitics, Technology, and Governance at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University.

Since 2017, DigiChina has published translations of primary sources, contextual explanation, and analysis on China’s technology policy landscape, covering topics including the Cybersecurity Law regime, data governance, artificial intelligence, and China’s official push for greater technological independence.

Major funding for DigiChina comes from the Ford Foundation, and earlier support came from the Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence Initiative of the Harvard Berkman Klein Center and the MIT Media Lab.
