About DigiChina

The DigiChina Project is a collaborative effort to understand China’s technology policy developments, primarily through translating and analyzing Chinese-language sources.
It is based at Stanford University, housed within the Program on Geopolitics, Technology, and Governance of the Cyber Policy Center at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and it maintains partnerships with the Leiden Asia Centre in the Netherlands and its former home at New America.
Since 2017, DigiChina has published translations of primary sources, contextual explanation, and analysis on China’s technology policy landscape, covering topics including the Cybersecurity Law regime, data governance, artificial intelligence, and China’s official push for greater technological independence.
Major funding for DigiChina comes from the Ford Foundation, and earlier support came from the Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence Initiative of the Harvard Berkman Klein Center and the MIT Media Lab.
